THE WILDLIFE TRUST FOR BEDFORDSHIRE, CAMBRIDGESHIRE & NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
With Rushden Lakes at its heart, the Nene Wetlands Nature Reserve is a square mile of meadows, wet woodland, reed bed and water. Home to a huge number of species, including kingfishers, dragonflies, grass snakes and otters, it is also a destination for thousands of migratory birds each year.
The reserve forms part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire as part of their Nene Valley Living Landscape.
The Nene Wetlands are great for people too, with miles of footpaths and cycle tracks to explore, as well as sculpture trails, viewpoints, a discovery play area and an education area.
The Wildlife Trust BCN have their very first visitor centre on the boardwalk and regularly run wildlife-themed activities and guided walks. Why not pop in, pick up a map and find out more about what this unique destination has to offer?
The visitor centre is open every day except Christmas day from 10am- 4pm*.
*Visitor centre may be open later during the spring and summer months.
