October is Blind Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing understanding of sight loss, challenging misconceptions and highlighting the importance of accessibility and inclusion for people living with visual impairments.

At Rushden Lakes, we're proud to support Northamptonshire Association for the Blind (NAB) as one of our Charities of the Year. Throughout the month, we're helping to raise awareness of the fantastic work NAB does across our local community and encouraging visitors to get involved in supporting their vital services.

About NAB

For over a century, NAB has been supporting visually impaired adults, children and families across Northamptonshire. Their mission is:

To enable visually impaired adults, children and families in Northamptonshire to live life to the full by providing advice, support, services and equipment that can help reduce the impact of sight loss.

NAB offers practical and emotional support to people at every stage of their sight loss journey. Their services include:

  • Advice and information for individuals and families affected by sight loss

  • Specialist equipment and assistive technology

  • Independent living support

  • Social groups and community activities

  • Children's and family services

  • Employment and well being support

  • Guidance on accessing benefits, services and resources

Through their work, NAB helps people maintain independence, confidence and connection within their local communities.

What is Blind Awareness Month?

Blind Awareness Month shines a spotlight on the experiences of people living with sight loss and encourages everyone to learn more about visual impairment.

It's an opportunity to:

  • Increase understanding of sight loss and its impact

  • Challenge stereotypes and misconceptions

  • Promote accessibility and inclusion

  • Support charities and organisations helping visually impaired people

  • Highlight the achievements and contributions of blind and partially sighted individuals

By raising awareness, we can all play a part in creating more inclusive spaces and communities.
