The Crown Estate is working with LXB Retail Properties Plc to develop the Rushden Lakes scheme. LXB is a property development company that specialises in developing leading, high profile and vibrant new retail and leisure destinations. In their work at Rushden Lakes, LXB is putting environmental sustainability and the preservation of wildlife habitats centre stage.
HPW Architecture was appointed in 2009 for this ground-breaking project. Much of Rushden Lakes is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) which includes areas of protected wetlands. So the sensitive and sustainability-led proposal put forward by HPW, in consultation with Natural England and The Wildlife Trust, has been instrumental in retaining the unique natural qualities of the location.
In early 2019, phase 2 of Rushden Lakes is due to open, featuring a 14-screen multiplex Cinema from Cineworld, a host of additional high-quality restaurants and a further range of exciting leisure activities – such as indoor trampolining, adventure golf and indoor climbing to name just a few.
Following the successful grant of planning permission (subject to S106 agreements and JR period) construction of these exciting new additions has begun and is due to complete in early 2019. Further retail will also be delivered at the same time in Phase 3 at the entrance to Rushden Lakes.
