A new £140 million shopping centre in Northamptonshire is taking shape.
The Rushden Lakes development has been under construction for more than a year.
It is about the same size as fifteen football pitches and, when it’s finished, will create about fifteen hundred jobs.
It is right next to 200 acres of wetlands which is managed by the Wildlife Trust.
Developer Mike Bell, from The Crown Estate, said: “We think this is the first time it’s been done in the UK, where we’re actually pro-actively bringing together shopping and eating, alongside more unusual outdoor activities.
“So, you could go shopping in a premium, fantastic shopping environment, but, literally, five minutes down the water here, you can jump in a canoe and go canoeing for an hour.
“It’s really quite a unique and unusual thing that we’re providing here.”
The first shops are due to open in the summer.
